May has been our best month for sales yet, due in large part to an increase in deli and coffee sales and a couple of new ranges. Many thanks to all our loyal customers for continuing to respect the social distancing measures whilst shopping, and for queuing patiently outside.
Plants for sale!
Last month we reported that there were several keen bakers in the village. It appears there are plenty of green fingered residents out there too. We started selling plants in May, supplied to us from a family firm based in Hartlip. Competitively priced compared to the local garden centres, they flew off the shelves and after two days we had to restock. Detling should look beautiful once they all start coming out!
Newspaper supplies
Our paper delivery round started this month and we are now getting our newspapers from Menzies rather than subletting from Bearsted. We need to sell high volumes to maintain this supply, so if you are interested in getting a delivery please contact the store on 01622 631305.
Café culture
From early July, if Government advice allows, we will be putting tables and chairs on the grass so that customers can enjoy some time outdoors with friends and family. More and more walkers and cyclists are popping in now that lockdown measures have eased, so we want to encourage them to use the store as a handy destination point.
White van girl
We are pleased to report that we now have our own store van, fully branded. Lou’s car was creaking under the strain of going to the wholesaler and bringing back large amounts of stock. She is now “white van girl” fetching stock and running deliveries round the village so watch out everyone!
A quick reminder to customers that we have recently altered our opening hours for the shop and post office; please refer to our website or Facebook pages for details. Finally a big thank you to all those who replied to our customer survey. We will be reviewing the feedback with interest to see if there is anything we need to be doing better.
